Phil was born at Andersen AFB
in Guam, August 8, 1973. From 1988 through 1992, Phil attended Serrano High School in Southern California. Phil was their first blind graduate. His best friend,
Jeremy Hatheway, was Serrano's second Blind Student to attend, but after the 1989-1990 school year, Jeremay
and his family then moved near Lancaster, CA.
While together at Serrano, they came up with the idea for Shadows in The Dark.
in the January 1992, Jeremy had passed away from having Difficulties with Diabetes. After Phil
graduated from high school he then pursued their dream by doing research for their idea. In April 1995 Phil had created the very first Braille Pictured Greeting Card
for Shadows in the Dark
Now living in Shreveport,
Louisiana, Phil attends Bossier Parish Community College. After three years
with Barksdale AFB, Family Services and the Base Education Center, Phil had
combined more than 3000 hours of volunteer work. He received a total of six awards, one of
which being the Family Services Volunteer of the Year for 1997. |
